Our history
Blue Junction started as a trio in the early 2010s with Mark, Pat, and Dave. We were a group of actors looking for creative outlets when not performing. Then Jimmy joined us around 2018, and things got more complex musically, with two guitars, and more focused. But we were having fun!
2020 and the lockdowns hit. We kept up online - using Jam Kazam, and Dave brought in Paul. Given the nature of Jam Kazam, using it without cameras meant less lag time, and without the video, it meant we had to really listen; our skills grew.
Once we were able to meet in person, Paul brought in his wife, Georgina Johnson. Both Georgina and Paul were “retired” musicians (as if musicians ever retire!), and that’s when the bar got raised. Paul and Georgina pushed our musicianship even further. Everyone was bringing songs to the group. We were finding three- and four-part harmonies and things were starting to gel.
Unfortunately, in 2023, we lost Georgina after a battle with cancer. A beautiful part of who we were was gone. But we continued to play, Georgina’s memory and influence fueling us; the music feeding our souls.
In 2024, Mark and Jimmy started writing some tunes, and shortly thereafter Pat joined in. We now have about a dozen originals. The new ideas continue to flow; we’re starting to find our groove and understand who we are as a band. And now we hope to book some gigs to share our love of music with the community.
David Blacker - drums and vocals
I hit things. I have always hit things. It started when I was very young, around 4 years old. At that age I started to tap things, anything but mostly table tops. This would come to be a problem as I grew up. I think it was my brother that grabbed some chopsticks and put them in my hands with some pots around me. My brother tells me that I was already keeping a beat so he put on some music to see what would happen. And that is where it all began. By the time I was 10 I had my first drum set. My cousin is a professional drummer and gave me lessons for two years or longer. I can't remember exactly. From there I went to high school. I was too advanced for them to teach me anything about percussion so they put me on the trombone. Just after that I got braces on and that was the end of the trombone. Next they put me on the saxophone. That was kind of fun but I wanted to be back on the drums. They finally gave in and I started playing with the bands in high school. Jazz, big band and the orchestra.
After high school I was more interested in acting and followed that career for more than 20 years. Drumming still came in handy as I did a few plays where I played the drums and a movie called Hearts of Fire. In that movie I had the great experience of playing with Bob Dylan. And, although I wasn't playing the drummer, I played the lead singer in John Gray’s "Rock and Roll" - separate productions with Mark and Jimmy.
I have come a long way since hitting pots and pans. In the end I still love to hit things.
James Downing - guitar and vocals
There’s a popular trope that “all musicians want to be actors and all actors want to be musicians”. Never more true in Jimmy’s case, who not ironically, shares the experience of having performed in John Gray’s "Rock and Roll" with two of his bandmates. Such is fate.
As a professional actor for 50 years, and a Torontonian for the last 30, he could often be spotted in the Rocket on the way to an audition, perched in the car exits, practicing on his metallic green Ibanez, confident in the knowledge that his mistakes were being muffled by the rattle and hum of the subway.
Although the guitars have changed, the love of music is undiminished and now shared with the other disparate members of BLUE JUNCTION. Twelve original songs later and they’re still talking to one another. Someone call Noel Gallagher.
We miss you Georgina.
Mark Ingram - guitar and vocals
Mark has been playing guitar off and on for the last 50 years. He's been in the acting world for over 40 years. Initially, as a musician, it was as an acoustic folk-song player. However, when he was cast as the guitar player in John Gray’s “Rock and Roll” he was brought into the world of the electric guitar.
As a listener, Mark’s main influences over the last couple of decades have been from the world of the Blues. This even prompted a few trips to Chicago, to study as a player and immerse himself in the blues clubs. While in Chicago, Mark was fortunate to study with: Tom Holland, Billy Flynn, Joanna Connor and Johnny Burgin.
Mark Logan - drums & vocals
Patric Masurkevitch - bass and vocals
Pat has been involved in the arts industry for over 45yrs. Music was slow to evolve as a focal point for artistic release but once bitten, twice smitten and the love affair is in bloom.
Cause its all about the bass!
